Additional Info
-
The Ume knot (梅結び) is a traditional mizuhiki knot inspired by the plum blossom, known in Japanese as “Ume". Blooming bravely at the end of winter and often through snow – the plum blossom symbolizes resilience, renewal, and the promise of spring. Likewise, the Ume knot carries meanings of strength, beauty, and good fortune, especially in health and longevity. Mizuhiki (水引) is a traditional Japanese art form that dates back to the 7th century. Made from hand-twisted washi paper (made from mulberry trees), mizuhiki cords were originally used to seal important gifts and documents. Over time, they came to represent connection, protection, and well wishes – an art of tying meaning into every strand.
